Hi, I’m Licia!

I’m a seasoned front-end web developer with 20+ years of experience building websites for small businesses and organizations. I’m known for making complex WordPress websites come together like magic and for ongoing collaborative work with organizations like YBB Connect, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs and the Scotiabank Women Initiative.

I love everything about building websites, optimizing them, and using modern digital marketing strategies to help my clients grow their businesses. I love painting watercolour florals, and I've also painted a couple of floral murals. Ask me for a sneek peak of my office wall next time we meet.
I love playing with bright, bold colours in my projects (and brand) - but that you probably already know.

How dreams, determination and web design transformed me into the WebDev Momma

Let me share a bit of my journey with you, a story that’s woven with dreams, determination, and the drive to make the internet a more beautiful place. It’s a tale that I hope will inspire you, especially if you’ve ever felt that tug in your heart towards something more, something uniquely you.

My adventure began in the mid-90s, a time when the internet was just stretching its wings and web design was a path less traveled. Back then, I was a curious soul, eager to dive into this new world. I taught myself the ropes, driven by a vision that the internet could be more than just square-shaped websites. It was a canvas waiting for artists like me to paint it with colors of innovation and creativity.

As high school came to a close, the usual questions about the future started pouring in. But for me, the answer was clear as day—I wanted to create websites. Despite the lack of a formal career path in web design at the time, I was determined to carve one for myself. However, this dream didn’t come without its challenges.

Voices of doubt, especially about a woman’s place in tech, tried to steer me away, suggesting I stick to arts and graphic design. But the heart wants what it wants, and mine was set on making a mark in the digital world.

For a while, I wandered off the path, exploring languages and literature, and even venturing into a business and marketing degree. Each detour taught me something valuable, but my heart kept pulling me back to web design. It wasn’t long before I decided to listen to that inner voice, the one that had been guiding me all along.

In 2006, I took the leap and launched myself as a freelance web designer, under the banner of Scraporama Studio. It was a dream come true, working with creative women in small businesses, crafting websites that mirrored their handmade products. This was more than just design; it was about creating digital spaces that told a story, that connected with people on a deeper level.

Yet, something was still missing. Like Moana, I felt a call to explore beyond my horizon, to find my true place in the world. This quest led me to Canada, where I pursued a degree in web development, validating my skills and passion for the industry.

It was here, in 2015, amidst the challenges of immigration, motherhood, and post-partum depression, that I found my true calling—not just in building websites, but in empowering women to embrace web design and digital marketing as a path to independence and success through my web design studio, The Creative Website.

In 2020, the pandemic brought its own set of challenges, but it also opened doors to new beginnings. With the support of amazing business coaches, I pivoted my career towards mentoring, becoming the “WebDev Momma,” a nickname that perfectly captures my nurturing approach to helping others grow.

My mission today is to empower and teach tech-savvy women everywhere how to create freedom, flexibility and financial independence designing WordPress websites through courses and mentorship programs at The Creative Web Designer.

My story is a testament to the power of perseverance, of listening to your heart, and of finding your tribe. It’s about breaking barriers, overcoming doubts, and creating a path where none existed. As you’re reading this, know that you too can make your dreams a reality. Let’s embark on this journey together, and transform the digital world, one beautiful website at a time.

Thank you for being here, for sharing in my story. I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us next.
